Lindsey Valenzuela has been a staff favorite for a long time. Her heart and spirit are always on display whether she’s competing in a local throwdown or on our Sport’s biggest stage, the CrossFit Games.
Functional Equipment’s mission is to deliver top quality product that allows you to raise your game whether you’re sweating alone in your garage or amongst friends at your local box. When we found out that Lindsey spends a good portion of her training time in her garage, we thought we’d take it upon ourselves to see that she has the proper gear to prepare for this Games season. The video above highlights that process and the end result.
We’d like go give a special thanks to Arsenio (Lindsey’s husband) for making this happen as well as the guys over at Intersect Media for the film support.

We jokingly refer to our boy Aaron as the VP of Productivity because we’re more likely to find him playing ping pong with a warehouse hand than actually increasing the efficiency of the business, but we love him none the less. It helps that he’s a stellar athlete and a great guy, so it’s hard to get mad at him.
He and Nathan, our Staff Accountant are rivals of sorts when it comes to CrossFit Games workouts, or any WOD for that matter. Yesterday they tee’d off on 13.2 together when we had some downtime so we decided to film the action.

The 2013 Winter Shakedown is just around the corner and we’ll be supplying the gear again this year. Along with the typical bars and bumpers we’ve provided in the past, this time around you’ll have your chance to get your hands on some very large slam balls, similar to those which were used in the 2012 CrossFit Games. All prices listed below are final, and all event gear will need to be picked up at the end of the day at the Shakedown. We will add to this list once we get a confirmation on barbells used for the event.
Gear List
Thanks to all the hard work of the event staff we were able to sell all the products. Keep an eye on this blog for more used product updates.
This video was shot at the 2012 OC Throwdown and features some of the best CrossFit athletes on the planet. It was our pleasure to provide the equipment for this event since its inception in 2010.
We are busy prepping the warehouse and gym in anticipation of a decent size crowd tomorrow. We’re hoping for great weather because we plan to have a decent size workout space outside where you can test our equipment and occupy your time while you wait for your turn to shop.
Info
Location: 766 St. Clair St., Costa Mesa, CA 92626
Time: 1pm – 5pm, or until someone takes home the last 126lb Kettlebell
Dress Code: Bring your workout clothes if you wanna get sweaty
Here’s the basic rules for the sale:
1. First come, first served. Our goal is to keep this as fair as possible so when you show up we are going to queue you up and get you on a list so that you don’t have to stand in line. Once you’re on the list you’re free to mill about, play with the workout gear we’ll have out front, or go grab some coffee (get us some, too).
2. Limit 10 items per person. In an effort to ensure that people get the gear they need, and also to keep resellers from cleaning us out, we’re going to keep order totals to 10 items per person. There will be some items that are excluded from this restriction, but the popular stuff like barbells and bumpers will be held to this standard.
3. Cash or credit, no checks.
4. 20 Minute AMRAP. We think that 20 minutes to mill around the floor and pick stuff out is more than enough, so we’re going to cap the shopping sessions at 20 minutes total.
5. Come preppared. What you buy on this day must be hauled home in your vehicle, so if you’re planning on buying 55 flooring tiles you better have a contingency plan because they aren’t going to fit in the Corolla.
Availability Notes:
Functional Women’s Bar – Turns out the few used Women’s Bars we had weren’t fit to sell, I guess those Outlaw ladies were just too strong. Luckily, we have an amazing price of $175 on new ones and have about 20 in stock.
Heavy KBs – We have a LOT of kettlebells that weigh over 88lbs. We’re talking like 126 pounders, and everything in between. We’ve priced them at an outrageously low 75 cents per pound. 2.5 Pood is the new 2 Pood, we promise.
Other Heavy/Weird Stuff – Ever had a need for a 150lb slam ball? If so, you’re in luck, we have 4 for sale. We’ve also got them in 60, 80 and 120 pound increments. We’ve got used prowler sleds, an ish load of 45lb metal plates and other such oddities.
Slim pickins on the used GHDs (only 2), about 2000lbs worth of used Hi-Temps and one set of used Plyosafe boxes. But we’ve got quite a few new of each of these at a great price.
And finally, the moment you’ve been waiting for, the price list. Please note that we may add some items to this and will have an updated sheet in the morning.

Danny Nichols is a madman. Some of the things he is capable of, at his size, are truly astounding. He also makes for great photography fodder. We had a great time interacting with him throughout the weekend. Some of our staff helped with the judging, and even though he looks like he’d rip your spine out of your throat at the sound of “no rep” he was actually one of the easiest guys to judge all weekend.

Ingrid Kantola vacated the SoCal Region a few years back and we’ve always wondered how she’s progressed as an athlete. You may be unaware, but in 2010 she underwent a pretty aggressive surgery to fix the mitral valve in her heart, which was a success but definitely put her on the mend. All this after absolutely wrecking shop in the Sectional that year. We were bummed not to get to watch her at the Regional event to say the least but glad to see that she’s doing well and back to her old self. Texas has been good to you, Ingrid. But it’s time to come back to SoCal!

Matt Hathcock is a fantastic story — the entirety of which we’ll tell you at a later time — he’s got some demons in his past but has successfully re-focused that energy into CrossFit and working towards his ultimate goal of the Games. He’s had a long string of near wins at CrossFit events, including an absolute nail biter at the Regionals in 2012 so we were very excited to see him take home the check on this weekend and break his multi-year curse.
